After a brief hiatus from releasing albums, Texas based songwriter, Nicholas Altobelli, is back with his first full album in four years. Following up the acclaim of 2013’s Without A Home (“Pop perfection” -No Depression), 2014’s Mesocyclone EP (“Exquisite, atmospheric song writing -Exclaim!), and 2015’s Searching Through That Minor Key (“These gentle songs celebrate the way that sadness can be beautiful.” -Blurt Magazine), Altobelli is set to release a new set of eleven songs across the Americana landscape. With Vertigo Altobelli celebrates the hope and light in a modern world that can push darkness and deceit to the forefront.

In some ways this was an album ten years in the making. One of Altobelli’s earliest songs to never see a release (“Don’t Let The World Get You Down” – written in 2009) finally finds a home on Vertigo. The album also revisits a few songs from 2014’s Mesocyclone EP (“Odd Numbers”, “Thunderstorms”) in new, fleshed out arrangements.

A lot of the songs featured on Vertigo were songs that never made it on previous albums. “Runaway Trains” and “Tell Me What I Got to Do” never found a spot on the Mesocyclone EP. “Go To Sleep” was from a scrapped children’s folk album. “Everybody Knows The Truth” and “Look Out The Window” were written during a couple of studio sessions with Salim Nourallah as producer in 2015-2016 (The Nourallah-produced versions of those songs were released on 2018’s The Day-Olds compilation EP) that never materialized a full length album.

Like many of the songs, Altobelli also went through some transformations in those four years. In the ashes of a painful divorce in 2013, Altobelli left music full time to go back to college to pursue a degree in literature. In 2016 Altobelli began his new career as a teacher where he currently teaches high school English.

Under the guidance of producer, Zach Balch, Altobelli embraces the Americana roots that were once diluted in his previous full length releases while still keeping his California-pop tendencies. Despite their fractured timelines, each song on Vertigo weaves into each other with the same thematic thread of hope: I’m thinking maybe that it ain’t supernatural / That someday we could love one another / I know sometimes it doesn’t seem very factual / We just got to find a way to live together with these red, white, and blues.
